Shoe Review: Hoka One One Rincon
Plush, lightweight, and fantastic are some perfect adjectives used to describe the Rincon, a new lightweight running shoe by Hoka One One. Inspired by the world famous Rincon surf-spot according to Hoka, this versatile running shoe is perfect from long runs to tempo runs, coming in at $115.
Technical Specs:
Price: $115
Weight: 7.5oz (M9)
Heel to Toe drop: 5mm
Best for: Road running
Shoe type: Neutral, Lightweight
Construction:
The Rincon's midsole is created using Hoka One One's EVA compression midsole providing long lasting comfort, and an early stage Meta-Rocker for an even quicker acceleration. There are rubber sections or pieces strategically placed on the outsole to provide durability, but also keep the shoe very lightweight. The upper's single layer mesh provides breathability without any added weight, and the heel tab allows easy entry while being very comfortable.
Bottom Line:
I was very surprised of how cushioned the shoe was even though it was lightweight. The upper, being thin mesh, felt very comfortable when comparing it to the previous shoes I have worn. The comfort and its weight, combined with a good price of $115, has made the shoe really worth everything. The only things I was concerned about were its durability, and its laces. Because there are so few rubber spots, the exposed foam can wear out very quickly, especially the back and the sides. The laces were also a problem, being too short and also coming off easily during runs. If those two elements could be fixed, I would believe this to be a superior running shoe.
